Nexa Music wanted to take its Season 2 one notch higher as they kick started it with a contemporary retro theme. The same theme had to be followed for creating a music video for its hero song. Keeping Nexa’s brand image in mind that represents a very niche, modern, elite, urban audience and given the song is very upbeat, cool, and in the retro pop zone, they wanted to capture the same in the video.
A music video following the journey of a man and woman in parallel realities who traverse through the highs and lows of a relationship via symbolic movements.
The Challenge
The Treatment
In collaboration with Qyuki, we came up with a concept for the video which is a symbolic representation of two individuals and the highs and lows they experience in a relationship. In Spite of being in parallel realities, again, symbolic to the mindset of many in a relationship today, the video makes the characters interact in a fashion that feels like they are part of the same space.
Taking inspiration from the Yin & Yang, the video represents a futuristic setup of existing in a relationship with the good and the bad.
The Craft
Setup and story wise, from beginning to end, the male and female protagonists do a range of things that are similar, as though they are together, but are actually parts of 2 different setups. The setups, however similar, have slight differences, that help the audience figure the two people are in different worlds. They eventually converge into a single universe, as they sit inside the Nexa car.
The rooms we see are similar in set-up, and layout but at the same time there are small differences, in the overall lighting, color scheme, even the detailing of the objects, giving us the illusion that we have stepped into the same room but in a parallel dimension.
The sequence of the video has a futuristic theme in a surreal setup. The couple tries to go beyond normal measures to move past their differences. The song, playing in the background is basically speaking what is in their mind and how they are being nostalgic about the great past but irritable about the existing present.
The costume is vibrant, with both male and female actors wearing pop-culture clothing that is striking and full of life. As the song has a party-touch to it, the clothing selected is also very club-centric.
Keeping in sync with the futuristic theme, the camera movements are fluid and continuous. Airy and spaced out effects have been provided to match the choreography of the song.
The choreography is highly pumped with moments of power dancing by both individuals, keeping up with the tempo of the high beat song.
